Correct, the blocks keep the blade from drifting off of the bearing. For my next bandsaw trick in 2012 (after next year's refund of an overpayment to the Feds ;) ), I'm thinking of the Carter bandsaw stabilizer (see http://www.carterproducts.com/product.asp?product_id=34&cat_id=14 ). Using this,...

My coupler is pretty much nicely wedged into my bandsaw.

Magnet with tag on the exposed coupler spring is now my reminder method. Again, sorry, no picture...

Gary, Are you dripping superglue down the inside of the kit before putting the tubes in? (Let dry after dripping the superglue, then, run a dowel w/ sandpaper, or a needle file if the pen tubes don't fit). Also, are you turning gently (light cuts)? I recentely bought a carbide turning tool (use like...

I have started turning pens with my Shopsmith. I have had good luck with a BLO/CA finish (four coats). I recently tried HUT Plastic Polish over the CA. It works great on tight-grained wood like Olive and Cherry, but when applied to open-grained wood (such as Oak, Bloodwood, and even dark woods, lik...

bandsaw tension

So, I finally replaced the bandsaw blade. Afterwards, I pulled out the manual to read about aligning the bandsaw guides, and noticed that Shopsmith recommends releasing the bandsaw tension when you're done. I'd never done that (loosen tension after the end of the shop session). (Just install & g...

Where do you put your 5/32" allen wrench? In the non-PP headstock, I just slipped it above the switch, and the wrench is an interlock. I can do that with the PP headstock at the end of the session, but I don't have a really good place to store the wrench (unless I use my pocket...) during regul...

hdtran, Look at the outside of that extension cord you were using and post the jargon you'll find on the outer sheathing. You said the gfi blew. Did it blow INSTANTLY when you turned the SS on, or did it take a while? Also, where is your gfi? at the outlet you plugged the extension cord into?...or ...

No backlog on PowerPro

I had an income tax overpayment that came back, sufficient to fund a refurbished PowerPro. No backlog. Called in an order, & it shipped that same day (!). Got it set up (without help, but with some serious grunting) in about 1.5 hrs (mostly, rigging some spacers to minimize risk of injury with m...

Shopsmith brand lathe tools are perfectly good. Just be sure to sharpen after receipt. Very few lathe tools are sharp "out of the box."

Gary, For doing laser-cut inlays, I would buy direct from the supplier. Not that I have issues with Rockler or Woodcraft or other resellers (I don't think), but I think I prefer buying direct from the small business. Kallenshaan Woods (who pioneered the laser-cut inlays for pens), or Lazerlinez are ...
