Planer or Jointer... which is more versatile?

So if you had to choose only one which would you choose? I really need one, but I'm not sure which is a better purchase. Doesn't a planer do basically the same thing as a jointer only on a grander scale? It seems to me that a jointer is limited to about 6" while a planer can handle up to 12&quo...

Has anyone ever tried to square a pen blank using their disk sander in the drill press position? I've been having a problem squaring the pen blanks due to the different size diameters of the tubes. I thought that if I drilled them out in the drill press and then mounted the disk sander the ends shou...

Big fan, but getting a little burned

Craigslist is a great site; I've used it several times. I once tried to sell my Shopsmith on there and actually got a hit on it; I was totally surprised. The guy said he wanted to buy my "item" from Craigslist (his exact words). I emailed him and asked if he wanted any further pics of the ...

Well Tango, I'll be with David Ellsworth later this month. This is thru the AAW chater of a turners club I'm in. That's great. I can't imagine how informative this class is going to be. It's pretty tough to find classes like this over here... especially classes that are taught in English! :D

I love working like that... ...I had an uncle that I used to work with some on his apartment buildings. He would time after time carefully measure stuff even like floor covering down to 1/64th of an inch. He would get so intent on getting the 1/64th of an inch right that he would miss the measureme...
