Michael, what coupler did you find that eventually worked well? Ruland JC26 with a 5/8" bore. Grainger #3HPX3 (you need 2 of these), and a hytrel spider, Grainger #3HRF1. It's a tight fit, so it does not slide on and off as easily as the SS power coupler, and the 3 jaws are exposed on the head...

To reduce snipe you can lift up on the board until the out feed roller grabs it. At the end of the cut, again lift up on the board just before it clears the infeed roller.

I wonder what the max torque is of the Shopsmith Mark V and how it compares to other stand alone table saws with fixed speed motors of various hps. Would make a very interesting experiment, me thinks. Torque (ft.lbs.) = (HP x 5252)/RPM So, a standard Mark V has a 1.125 HP motor at 700 RPM = 8.44 ft...

Am I correct in the assumption that the problem with the coupler is that the splines on the coupler wear and become loose in the mating grooves in the hubs? It's not so much that there is wear on the splines, but the coupler itself has enough flex to create backlash. One other test I did was to put...

Bandsaw and the PowerPro

Many of us have had issues with the band saw making banging noises with the PowerPro. After talking with Wes and adjusting the settings it got better, but not good enough. suspecting that backlash is causing the PowerPro to jump around, I did an experiment. I tried resawing a piece of 2x6, and confi...

Also, I noticed a rattle or small repeating metallic noise when running at around 1200 to 1400 RPM. Checked the bearings and they all just hummed. Sounded like the noise was comming from the motor. Since the motor mount set screws had loosened and almost worked all the way out, I thought maybe the ...

I was thinking the rustic look but cupping does have me concerned. Is tongue and grove the way to go or just leave them side by side? They are going on 3/4 in plywood and I can secure them from the basement. Since you have basement access you could use the wider boards and drive screws down the cen...

I purchased a pair of 6' tubes from onlinemetals.com for $27.30. They may not be as shiny and pretty as the SS tubes, but the price is right. I cleaned them up with acetone to remove the oil and markings then waxed them.

I am a new SS owner, having just purchased 2 machines...a Mark V from 1983 from the serial number and a Mark VII that has a Manga on the tag. Got them both for $750 with a lot of extra goodies so I'm very happy. My question is this: How thick of a board can you rip with the table saw? I have a doze...

Realize the setting of the table(chain sprocket syncing) is done relative to the tie bars merely as a matter of convenience for those not having a dial indicator etc. I suggest repeating that table height adjustment, but use the dial indicator etc. and reference(vertical) to the cutter head rather ...
