I'll say this first, I do not use my SS 500 as a table saw, I have a large cabinet saw which I prefer. So, that being said, I have been using the 60 tooth (Fine Finish, Thin Kerf) Freud Diablo blade in my saw for both ripping and crosscuts. The crosscuts are literally GLASS smooth & simply incre...

This is going to sound weird, and time consuming, but it does work. A problem with a mortise made with a SS router bit is that the ends are a semi-circle. By routing(similar to drilling) two holes in the tenon piece before cutting the tenon at the distance apart = to the location of the 'ends of th...

because I had to vote for a SS tool, mine is my Mark V model 500 (circa 1984).

My real anchor is my table saw of course, but the SS is certainly a close second. It really is a great machine.

I have the table. Mine is mounted on a stand. The pictures of the product on clearance looks to be only the table top, fence and router bit guard/shield. It does not come with the insert plate for your router, but instructions of how to make one. You have to mount the table on something, it is essen...

I will add,

I tried brad point drill bits and forsner bits both in drilling mortises. I was very unhappy with the flex (too much flex) in the brad point bits, the forsner bit was more solid, but drilled slowly,

A solid carbide 1/4" or 3/8" upcut spiral bit, works SUPER!

I have found my SS to be quite capable of cutting mortises. I use my large table saw with a woodcraft tenon jig to cut the tennons, but I'm sure the SS would do a good job with the tenon jig. I have cut my mortises a couple different ways: With my SS set up right in drill press mode, I set my fence ...

I hope everyone is correct on this. I just can't imagine SS can survive long term as a parts department only in this economy and with the influx of cheap Asian made machines.

Perhaps new sales of Mark V's are still strong, I hope they are.

To follow up on my posts..... Shimming helped, but my table has a nice concave shape to it (about .025" low in the center). This of course translates to the fence and causes my fence to be out of perpindicular to the table. With the fence at one side of the table, the fence "leans" on...
