I was also thinking about their kit with the mandel saver as well.. I did buy (a while back) a PSI morse taper adapter if that helps... I just figured I'd check since I've got a local Rockler that's literally a 5 minute drive which would satisfy my instant gratification, but in this case that may no...

PSI or Rockler mandel for pen turning?
I believe at least one person here has the PSI mandel for doing pen turning -- anyone tried using a Rockler equiv on the Shopsmith and care to comment? I gather the Rockler adjustable model is not good but the fixed sounds like it might be OK .. Comments?

I'll see if I can get some pics (not at home right now). The plywood is the cheapie crud offered at the local home center -- perhaps chinese.. Not sure. The tear-out was on the edges as I recall -- not in the dado itself -- the surrounding untouched (or should be untouched) wood. I do not recall the...

What to look for in a "good" dado blade set and/or am I using it wrong?
Hi all.. I know I'm asking a loaded question and I know that people have different opinions on this topic, but I'm looking for a good quality dado blade (6" is probably fine for my needs). I purchased, a LONG time ago (~15 years?), an Oldham (made in USA) Dado blade (like this one) that had nev...

Thanks Chuck.. I'll do some more reading.. In the meantime I picked up some parts to make my first box jig from plans I got off the plansNow.com site care of one of the woodworking mags. It's easy to assemble and looks like it ought to do what I need without costing $100+... For the top/bottom, shou...

my next project : a box with hinged lid
Ok.. Now that I've got my first project out from under me, it's time to move on to the next project. My wife sells gift cards for the kids school to other parents in the school and has a plastic box with all of the cards in it that gets carted around and locked up afterwards. This box occasionally g...

I'm in the LA area and frequently see someone listing one for $300 on CL.. I've got one that came with my SS but have NEVER used it.. That and the biscuit machine that came with it.. It's on my list of things to try out as I've got several brand-new SS blades and whatnot. I don't think anything was ...

Thanks Chuck.. I did use the thicker wood to my advantage and brad-nailed each of the shelves into the back of the panel which ought to help with sag prevention. Next time I build something that large or larger I REALLY need a table to do the work -- this time I used our tile floor which isn't quite...

Most stores in So-Cal are out -- a few have the routers -- one was showing a price of $42 and another $69 but online was something like $139.. I did find one for $39.50 but would take a bit of a drive to get it out in Burbank.. Perhaps I could get Leno to get it for me.. and drop it off in one of hi...
