Maybe I'm going overboard here, but you can dado the vertical sides of the shelf 1/4" deep to accommodate the backing. It would probably be overboard to suggest dadoing the backing 1/8" so I won't suggest that:rolleyes:. I'm assuming that by doing that, you would NOT see the backing sheet...

I had been planning on aquiring a WS3000 at some point but when visiting a local Rockler store recently, one of the guys there was steering me away from either the Tormek (which his opinion was that it ran too slowly, took too long to do the 'job') and the WorkSharp and was in favor of the OneWay Wo...

Ok.. I'll look around for some birch plywood that's 1/4".. Interestingly enough the shelves I'm copying had no back on them as you can see in the picture above.. Not sure why that was done but it was. I guess I'll have to put this project on hold until I can find a proper backing as I'll need t...

Thanks for the reply.. I was able to fab up all of the shelves, 2 sides, top & bottom pieces -- it's just a matter of picking the method for the shelf mounting (fixed or adjustable).. I'm tempted to just make them fixed in position which should add to the overall stability of it. Below are some ...

Question on replacement shelf construction....

Hi all.. I've been away for a while but am now working on a project to replace a shelving unit that used to exist but was too high (blocking a heating vent), so I'm rebuilding from scratch using 3/4" birch ply I picked up in culver city (ca). So, the old unit used dado's to recess each shelf as...

My CL find for the week..

Hi all.. Long time no hear.. Anyway, I managed to get down to South Orange County (CA) yesterday and picked up two items for not too bad a price.. I got a Paslode 18 gauge finish nailer/brad nailer (same as this one here) for $100 and got a freebie Senco brad nailer (SLP20) for free -- albeit the Se...

I am doubting you will get an answer to this. His original picture post was done on 3/23/2009 and he only ever had 3 posts. I am doubting he will be back to say hi unfortunately. But you could always check the plans out he used from the magazine. It may tell you. :) If you follow the link he posted...

Sounds like my fun I had about a week ago getting rid of "Pa" gopher in the backyard.. He was a BIG gopher and was creating a large hole every day right under the chicken feeder in the yard. So, I cleaned out the hole and put a "black-hole" trap in line and had him done-in within...

Thanks for the suggestion on trail-n-error.. I had actually tried last year after Christmas and saved a piece of the old tree (the small end) for turning and that was how I found the chisels were VERY dull -- either that or that fir was REALLY strong!! :D
