Sawdust in Bench and Way Tubes

I noticed that sawdust had accumulated in the Bench Tubes and I didn't want moisture to rust the areas covered by the the sawdust. I found that one gallon plastic milk jugs had a cap that was close fit to the inside of the tubes. The bottle caps can be pursuaded to fit inside of the tubes with a scr...

Re: Speed Control Knob Set Screw slipping on allen Wrench solved

Thanks for your answers. I bought a couple of new set screws. I was pleasantly surprised when the L shaped allen Wrench gripped. I was tightening the set screw 4 -5 times tighter than the L shaped allows. The pop when it loosened with the L shaped allen wrench was the confirmation of how much I had ...

Speed Control Knob Set Screw slipping on allen Wrench solved

I was reassembling and setting the speed indicator ring. The original speed control knob set screw socket started to allow the allen wrench to turn in the socket, not loosening the setscrew. I replaced the set screw and continued. This set screw was tightened with a T handle wrench after taking the ...

Two 3/4 Hp Motors that need HELP ?

Can either or both of these be reliable for a reasonable expenditure? I would value a reversing motor for lathe operations, can these be wired to reverse. First one started and ran, several times. On a 3 minute extended run, it started to smoke. I shut if off and found that the motor casing was very...

Re: Repair Help needed in Oregon

I agree w/ED. I measured two of my belts. The Shopsmith 504193 DF measured 0.5 " back by 27 " outside DIAMETER. It was larger than a 4L (.50") x 250 (25.5 ") belt. A longer belt may be contributing to the problem because your are making the lower sheave as small as possible, runn...

Re: Gilmer Drive System -REASSEMBLY

I agree the HF bearing does a great job of reassembling the drive sleeve after clutch inspection. The clutch comes apart easily by removing the external snap ring. To get the snap ring back in and compress the clutch spring, the bearing puller jaws were reversed to use the bottom of the bearing sepa...

Sliding table and Triangles Works for me.

I built a set of 1/4" thick Triangles from hard board for my sliding Table. The triangles have 45. 30, 60, angles for one of the points. I use a couple of fence clamps to hold the triangles on the sliding table with the point of the triangle close to the saw blade. Then place the molding agains...
