Bandsaw (Carter Stabilizer)

Carter makes a stabilizer that they advertise to be for the Shopsmith but I am unable to determine why I might need one. It looks like just another bearing that mounts behind the blade. If one has their bandsaw adjusted correctly, I am at a loss to see what it might do to improve performance. http:/...

Fence Creep

Len Do yourself a favor and put a cap on that oil can. It sounds like you have already used a life times supply of oil on the Shopsmith. Next - get and read the maintenance instructions. The most important ones are here online if you don't already have a hard copy. I am willing to bet you have NO pr...

Level Machine Setup (Part 2)

Shortly after sending my previous post I found myself out in the shop having been sent there by SHMBO to cleanup; we have company coming over tonight. I could not resist; I put a square on the table and pushed it up against the blade. Near perfect, just as I thought it would be. We had moved everyth...

Level Machine Setup

If you complete the alignment procedures as outlined in the operators manual - you are ready to go. Make sawdust and be merry. If you must move your machine around, "check" for proper alignment (which you will probably still have) and then make still more saw dust. If you have difficulty p...

Main Table Ribbing

Ed; I had the same question (as you see in the thread) and some doubt that I had communicated my thoughts about the $20 alignment procedure being replaced by a permanent shim. I set out to convince myself that I could use a shim. I was almost so convinced that I about tore down the table that I had ...

Reversed Table Saw Blade

What are the probable consequences of attempting to use a table saw with the blade installed backwards?

Will it even cut or will it 'kick back'?

Outfeed/Infeed Tables

Using the information and photos that Earl Morten posted on that other forum, I have made drawings of the parts that must be constructed to recreate Earl's Table System. I am going to built these for myself. The only reason they are not done is because I have not located a ready source for the alumi...

510 to 520 upgrade

If you will browse through all of the posts in this forum, you will find that you are but one of several who have been restricted (for medical reasons) from using their SS. I am one. However, don't wait for the upgrade to get out there in the shop and enjoy your Shopsmith. Using it is great therapy,...

Maintenance/Tuneup

I too am just now getting back to using my Shopsmith after having been laid up for nearly 3 years due to surgery and complications. I live in a climate a bit different than Georgia but the hazards of neglect to you machine are about the same. The recovery process is definitely the same! Get out you ...
