Re: "found" wood question
Yes! that is it. My piece has more and smaller " eyes" but that is what mine looks like. I have not been able to get a good photo of it, and your link is better than any I have right now. I am pretty sure this is " pine" as all the other parts are clearly pine. It is soft like pi...

"found" wood question
One of our renters left a wooden bed frame when he left. It was a cheap pine frame, but one of the 2x8 sides has what looks like a " birds eye" pattern in it. I had a wreck with the photo, but i think I can get one soon. Is there such a thing as Birdseye pine? I have never seen anything li...

Re: Speed control Idler gear issue
That is good info, I will keep an eye on that. I did look at the belt, but not real close. Thanks for the info.

Re: Speed control Idler gear issue
Will the vibration of the headstock be enough to cause the control handle to turn in the vertical?

Re: Speed control Idler gear issue
I think you are right, I just needed to hear it from some one other than me! I will see what happens and let you know. I never thought to check the tightness of the jam nut, and I suspect that it was the change from the horizontal that precipitated the movement. I will sure check it next time.

Re: Speed control Idler gear issue
up date: I went ahead with the speed control adjustment process, cleaned and lubed while I was at it. I have run the speed up and down 3-4 times and all seems well. Needless to say the high speed adjustment was way out of whack, but it seemed to hold ok after the fix. I did not put the blade or rout...

Speed control Idler gear issue
I just bought a router chuck for my 510. I did the set up and everything worked fine. I have not had the machine in the vertical for along time. After 2-3 hours of use practicing and cutting some groves, I noticed a slight change in speed. My shop is not real warm and I had just started working, so ...

Re: horizontal mortising
I got the router kit with the chuck and the shield. I am still doing practice on some scraps, but this is a leap forward for sure, It does exactly what I wanted and was not to expensive. I played with it just cutting some slots for a jig and it is so easy to use, especially on stopped dados. I have ...

Re: horizontal mortising
I was asking if the mortise can be made with the head stock in the normal position. I have used this set up to drill a mortise and the clean it up with a chisel, but thought about using a router bit and sliding the stock along the fence. Then I thought I might be able to do the same thing with the t...
