Re: Planing laminated boards with CF in between?

I vote for the belt sander option - 6” sanding belts are cheap at Harbor Freight. Commercial re-sharpening of carbide tipped planer knives is pricey and would almost certainly be required after only a few passes. I found out the hard way thinking I could avoid paint stripper & scraping by using ...

Re: speed changer center bit stuck

That bit right there in the middle of the double pulley system. The correct name is the floating sheave, but I don't think many know it by that. Heck probably not even people that own one. But if you do own one, any words around 'pulley' and 'middle' (thing, bit, whatchamacalit) would let you know ...

What are a “speed changer center bit” and a “floating center”? They sound related to lathe centers but I don’t get the speed changer & floating references. Can you educate me please?

Re: Chair repair & refinishing

Yes, the curved supports and back rails were clearly bent as part of the construction process. I wish I knew who made the chair in the early 1900's and how it was done.

Re: need help, what is thI s

Dusty, I found this 2015 post from you(!) and Mike listing the various Shopsmith setscrews & where they are used. It may answer where some of those odd set screws came from. There have been numerous postings regarding the hardware and hardware part numbers used by Shopsmith. The data provided in...

Re: need help, what is thI s

While we be on the subject of set screws, do be aware that cup tip and serrated cup screws are to be avoided. Flat or oval tip are the proper choice. Might this depend on the particular tool, arbor, or drive hub being anchored? Serrated set screws being preferred for more permanent drive hub attach...

It’s one of a kind at this point. Besides, as much work as it took to repair and refinish if any more did show up I’m not sure I’d be up for the job!

Re: Chair repair & refinishing

Looks like you kept the patina. Good. Never sand the old patina off. Steel wool better than sandpaper for such work. …. And that floor looks perfect for a shop... I thought about that before I started but the chair’s original patina was long gone. The chair now has a place in our home where we can ...

Chair repair & refinishing

This chair was passed down through my great aunt's family who farmed in Central Texas in the early 1900's. It had been sitting outside in the weather on my mother's back porch for several years when my wife convinced me it might be worth repairing and refinishing. Took it completely apart, re-glued ...

It doesn't look like you have a dust port attached. Does the bandsaw fill up with sawdust with the bottom sealed up?
