A few years ago I went through "finger joint hell" with a shop made jig, frustratingly trying to micro adjust the spacing. The INCRA I box eliminates all of these problems. Careful attention to the instructions and DVD will result in a perfect fit. With this jig, there will be many more finger joints in my future woodworking.

This is a well-made jig that does a great job on cutting box joints. Assembly of the jig is easy. Using the jig is a bit more challenging; it requires some tweaking when you first use it, and there is a bit of a learning curve. The nice thing about this jig (as opposed to home- made or other jigs) is the ability to micro-adjust the pin size. The gap size (space between pins) is determined by the blade width and therefore fixed. Ideally, one would think the gap and pins should be exactly equal in size, but in reality I find that the pins should be a few mils narrower for an easy fit and one that does not starve the joint of glue. It is easy to create this type of fit using this jig. I also bought a dedicated box joint blade which I highly recommend (maybe Shopsmith should sell this as well).

Easy setup, did take a bit of tinkering to get it positioned so none of the mounting screws interfered with each other but my second attempt resulted in a tap tight finger joint which I have not previously been able to achieve with any of my homemade finger joint jigs. Worth the money and better yet. MADE INTHE USA!

First, the instructional video and written instructions included are not for a Shopsmith but just a regular tablesaw. For example, the instructions state that if the tablesaw tilts to the right to install the device on the right and if it tilts to the left then install on the left. The Shopsmith tilts to the right so I installed it on the right...WRONG!!! It doesn't work if installed on the right so after about 3 hours of ripping my hair out I installed it on the left and KAZAM! It worked, but just barely. I cut my test piece and set the depth as instructed but I couldn't see in the picture that there is a lip on the depth setter and I set the depth with the wood all the way on the bench...WRONG AGAIN! After I thought I made 4 pieces perfectly and were going to put my first box together I discovered that there was a consistent gap between the tongue and groove of each piece. So after I Googled this item again I saw a much clearer picture on a site that showed the piece of wood being measured on the top of the groove, not the bottom. I'm off to mess up another piece of wood, wish me luck! This is not the EASY setup that they say so be prepared to spend your entire weekend trying to get this right.
