Over the years I have amassed quite a pile of dull Shopsmith planer and jointer knives waiting to go to the sharpening shop (30 minutes away). This Jig and the conical disc with 150 grit abrasive are an amazing! Within an hour and a half I had it setup and 8 sets of blades sharpened. With rates hear over $1 per inch I have broken even on the cost already, and without having to wait 5-7 days to get my blades back. Now if mounting and adjusting the blades were so easy. Note: Thinner washers ar

I bought the conical sander and the sharpening jig quite a few years ago, put on the sandpaper, and tried this on some wood. Unfortunately, my sandpaper kept tearing and flying off, so I packed it away and pretty much forgot about it. Recently, as I was working on a large-for-me project, I was using some African Ribbon Mahogany, and wanted to try running this through my planer. With the wild grain, I knew I would need sharp planer blades to have any chance of success. My collection of planer

This is an amazing product. I had to see it work to understand it, but it does a great job on sharpening jointer/planer knives. Knives are not only sharp, but match ground. More importantly, to me, is the conical sander. For sanding the edges of plywood, gnarly grained wood, etc. it's fantastic. Glass smooth results every time.

I've found this to be a wonderful tool. Had a little problem with the washers stopping ful insertion of the blades, but it was an easy fix by buying smaller washers locally. Have very sucessfully sharpened planer and jointer blades. Also have done a little edge smoothing, but prefer the jointer.

I recently had need to use my conical sanding disc and after reviewing set up procedure and setting up the disc to sharpen my planer blades, I found that the conical sanding disc wobbled about 1/4 inch in a revolution. As such, it is useless for its advertised purpose when trying to sharpen planer blades or anything. I have never used this disc previously, and although its been in my shop for about twenty years, it's in essentially "new" out of the box condition.
